How to stop Vuze from updating

Do This First

In order to install Vuze so that it does not update if you have already installed it, first you must uninstallVuze and then delete the folders it leaves behind after the uninstall.

If you are using Vista or above, you will need to enable View Hidden Files and Folders

Here is how you would do that:

How To Enable View All Files and Folders in Vista and above

By default in Windows Vista and above all system files and folders are hidden as in previous versions of Windows. The difference is the typical menu is not at the top of Windows Explorer so how you might be used to turning on hidden files and folders might seem harder than it was before. Actually its exactly the same and if you follow the instructions below you will see all files and folders in no time.

Seeing your hidden files and system files in Vista and above is not much different than in XP. Here are the step-by-step directions. Remember that system files are hidden for a reason. Don’t go messing around with stuff.

1. Click the round blue Start thing in the left corner

2. Click Control Panel / Appearance and Personalization

3. Click Folder Options

4. Click the View tab

5. Click Show hidden files and folders

6. If you want to see system files as well, uncheck Hide protected operating system files(Recommended)

7. Click OK

That’s all that needs to be done. These changes should not have to be set more than once unless you specifically change them back. Now all files and folders are viewable in Windows Vista and above. You should also be able to view all file extensions now which I find to be far more useful than hiding the so called known file types.

Now you will be able to access the folders that VUZE leaves behind after you uninstall it.

So go on ahead and uninstall Vuze the usual way:

Control Panel/ Uninstall Programs

If you are lucky and you have never had it installed, simply disconnect your computer from the internet, install Vuze normally and go to the through OPTIONS as stated in Step 4 (A) through Step 4 ( D) below.

Not so lucky ? Here is what to do next after you have completed the uninstall.

Step 1.

After you have uninstalled VUZE, go to

Start/Computer/C:/Users/Your User Name Folder/App Data/Roaming/Azureus

Once there DELETE the folder named Azureus if its there. ( it should be )

Delete the Azureus folder shown above.

Step 2

Now go to :

Start/Computer/C:/Users/Your User Name Folder/Application Data/Azureus

Notice that in the step above we went to the APP DATA folder.

In this step you will look for the Azureus Folder in Application Data.

If the Azureus folder is there, delete it too.

delete the Azureus folder if its there, if it is not there, go on to Step 3

Step 3

Now check and see if the VUZE folder exists in Program Files.

Go To:

Start/Computer/C:/Program Files/Vuze

( remembering that the VUZE folder may NOT BE THERE )

The VUZE folder might not be there.

If it is not there, your done with this part.

If it is there DELETE it.

Close all open windows and proceed to Step 4.

Step 4

You have enabled ” View all Files and Folders “, deleted VUZE entirely and you are now ready to install it in such a way as to stop it from auto updating to the latest version automatically after installation.

STEP 4 (A)

IMPORTANT !!!!!!

DISCONNECT YOUR COMPUTER FROM ACCESSING THE INTERNET !!!!!!

If you do not do Step 4 (A) before proceeding, you will have to start all over again from the beginning.

You have been warned.

Step 4 ( B )

Install VUZE as normal.

Skip all wizards during setup.

Remain disconnected from the internet.

Step 4 ( C )

Run Vuze and go to

TOOLS / OPTIONS

You need to be in ADVANCED MODE before proceeding so scroll down to the MODE button

and look the right of the window and choose ADVANCED.

Now, on the left side of the program window go to

INTERFACE

Look to the right of the INTERFACE options window and scroll down to where you see the option that says:

Allow Vuze to send anonymous version number and random ID while checking for new version

Make sure that is UNCHECKED. Hit SAVE at the bottom left hand side of this window.

DO NOT CLOSE THE WINDOW YET

While still on the INTERFACE radio button, use the drop down arrow to show START

Highlight START and look over to right of the program window.

UNCHECK THE BOX next to Check For Latest Version When VUZE Starts

UNCHECK THE BOX next to Check for latest version periodically

UNCHECK THE BOX next to Auto download updates and prompt when installation is ready

UNCHECK THE BOX next to Automatically open the update assistant when an update is available

Now scroll down to the lower left of the program window and hit the SAVE button again.

DO NOT CLOSE THE PROGRAM WINDOW YET.

Step 4 (D)

Scroll down to the Plugins radio button and look to the right of the program window.

Check or Uncheck choices to match the screen below remembering to hit the SAVE button when your finished.

Now you can close VUZE, restart your internet connection

Then re-open VUZE to configure it for port forwarding, or any special tracker rules etcetera the way YOU want it to be without it updating any longer.
