Changing Mail Exchange (MX) records

Mail Exchange (MX) records control how incoming email is routed for your domain. Before Google can host your email, you’ll need to change these MX records to point to our servers.

If your domain already has email addresses, please be careful changing MX records. To avoid disruption in email service, be sure to create the same set of user accounts with the control panel before changing your MX records Learn more

If you’re not ready to change your MX records yet, use the temporary email address (<username>@napralan.com.test-google-a.com) assigned to your user accounts when you create them. The temporary email address will be deactivated once you change the MX records. You must also verify domain ownership before using any Google Apps.

Showing instructions for

  1. Sign in to your domain hosting company’s website using the username and password associated with your domain.
  2. Navigate to an MX record maintenance page. MX records are special DNS (Domain Name Service) records, and are often located under sections titled “DNS Management,” “Mail Server Configuration,” or “Name Server Management.” You may need to turn on advanced settings to allow editing of these MX records.
  3. Delete any existing MX records before entering new MX records.
  4. For each MX record, enter information according to the entries in the following table.

    You may not be allowed to enter the priority values exactly as they appear in the table below; in that case, simply ensure that the server addresses are prioritized in the same order as they appear in the table. (i.e. The priority ranking [1, 3, 3, 5, 5, 5, 5] should work just as well as [1, 5, 5, 10, 10, 10, 10] so long as you keep the addresses in the right order.)

    If you’re asked to specify the type of each record you’re adding, enter “MX”.

    MX records often require the specific format of DNS records, including a trailing dot (“.”) at the end of any full-qualified domain names (e.g. “server.example.com.”)

    Set any TTL values to the maximum allowed.

  5. Change the SPF record to fight SPAM (optional)

    You may define the SPF record to authorize only certain IP addresses to send email for your domain. This will prevent spammers from sending unauthorized email under a forged address from your domain.

  1. Log in to your account at 123-reg.co.uk.
  2. Choose the domain you wish to use with Google Apps in the Manage Domains drop-down box, and click Modify Domain.
  3. Choose the fifth option – Manage DNS. Two default MX records will be visible:
  4. mx0.123-reg.co.uk. 10
    mx1.123-reg.co.uk. 20

  5. Replace the first entry with:
  6. ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. 1

  7. Click Update DNS
  8. Replace the second entry with:
  9. ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. 5

  10. Click Update DNS
  11. Enter the next three MX records in the Add new MX box, and click Update DNS between each entry.

  1. Log in to your account at https://admin.1and1.com.
  2. If it’s not already selected, click the Administration tab.
  3. Click Domains. The Domain Overview page appears.
  4. Select the checkbox next to the domain that you will be using with Google Apps.
  5. From the DNS menu, select Edit DNS Settings.
  6. Under Advanced DNS Settings, select the Other mail server radio button.
  7. Enter information according to the table below:
    MX 1 / Prio aspmx.l.google.com 1
    MX 2 / Prio alt1.aspmx.l.google.com 5

    MX 3 / Prio alt2.aspmx.l.google.com 5

  8. Click OK.
  1. Log in to your account at 4d Wed Hosting.
  2. Click Configure on the left side. A list of options will appear.
  3. Under Configure, Click MX Records.
  4. Below Update Record, enter the following information:
  5. Primary: ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
    Secondary: ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
  6. Click Update MX Records.
  1. Log in to your account with BT broadband office. You’ll need to log in as the primary user of the account by clicking Manage your domain name .
  2. Access the Domain Management Console in the BT Business Your Account area.
  3. Select the Domain Maintenance tab.
  4. Choose the domain name you’re using with Google Apps.
  5. Delete any existing MX records.
  6. Select MX from the first drop-down.
  7. Add @ as the key value .
  8. Add aspmx.l.google.com as the Value , and set the Priority as 10 .
  9. Click Go .
  10. Note: If you aren’t able to enter the Google server name, contact BT directly to ask one of their support members to manually update your MX records.

  11. Once you’ve confirmed the first Google server name, enter the following entries:
  12. Priority Mail Server
    20 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    20 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    30 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
    30 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
  13. Click Go .
  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Click Mail.
  3. Click Modify Mail Exchanger (MX Entry). A list of your current MX records will appear.
  4. Click Change an MX Entry.
  5. In the Change MX for… field, enter ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
  6. Click Change.
  1. Log in to your account at dnsExit.com.
  2. On the left side, click Manage Domain.
  3. In the drop-down menu near the middle of the screen, select the domain you would like to use with Google Apps.
  4. Click Edit DNS.
  5. Add the following MX records to the MX Settings section:
  6. aspmx.l.google.com. with a preference of 10
    alt1.aspmx.l.google.com. with a preference of 15

  7. Click Submit at the bottom of the screen. (You can only add two MX records at a time through the web interface.)
  8. On the next screen, click the Edit DNS button.
  9. Add the following MX records to the MX Settings section:
  10. alt2.aspmx.l.google.com. with a preference of 20
    aspmx2.googlemail.com. with a preference of 25

  11. Click Submit.
  1. Log in to your account at DNS Park.
  2. On the left side, click DNS Hosting.
  3. Click the domain you would like to use with Google Apps for Your Domain.
  4. Since DNS Park is your hosting service, and not your domain registrar, be sure that your domain points to the DNS Park nameservers. This will allow your MX record configuration to take effect.
  5. Click Mail Records (MX).
  6. For MX Resource records, enter the following:
  7. Mail Domain Priority Hostname
    (auto-filled) 1st ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
  8. Click Update.
  9. Repeat steps six and seven for the following MX record entries:
  10. Mail Domain Priority Hostname
    (auto-filled) 2nd ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    (auto-filled) 3rd ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    (auto-filled) 4th ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
    (auto-filled) 5th ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
  1. Log in to your account at Domain explorer.
  2. Open the My Domain page and select the domain that you’d like to use with Google Apps for Your Domain.
  3. From the Email Settings section, click Change service and select the entry titled User (mail server name required).
  4. In the Mail Host Records Setup section, enter information according to the data in the table below:

  6. Click Save changes.

NOTE: If there aren’t enough lines to enter all the parameters, fill the avaiable lines (do not fill the last line * (other)), click Save changes, and then click Configure in the Email settings section. This will provide additional lines for Google’s server information.

  1. Sign in to your domainsite.com account.
  2. Navigate to Domain Management for your domain.
  3. Delete any existing MX records before entering new MX records.
  4. For each MX record, enter information according to the entries in the following table.

    If you’re asked to specify the type of each record you’re adding, enter “MX”.

    Leave the Record Host field blank for each record. You don’t have to set a host for MX records.

    Leave the TTL value as the default setting.

  1. Log in to your account at www.dreamhost.com.
  2. Click Mail on the left side and select MX from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click edit next to the domain you will be using with Google Apps.
  4. Under Custom MX Records, delete all existing MX records.
  5. Enter ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. in the first text box.
  6. Click Update your custom MX records now!
  1. Log in to your account at dynadot.com .
  2. Click on the domain that you wish to change the MX records, and click Select Name Servers .
  3. Scroll down to Dynadot DNS and in the MX Records, enter the following MX records:
  4. Mail Host: aspmx.l.google.com
    Distance: 0Mail Host: alt1.aspmx.l.google.com
    Distance: 1

    Mail Host: alt2.aspmx.l.google.com
    Distance: 1

  5. Click Use Dynadot DNS and you are ready.
  1. Log in to your account at DynDNS.com.
  2. Click My Services below your username.
  3. Under Zone Level Services, Click Custom DNS next to the domain you will be using with Google Apps.
  4. Under Mail eXchanger (MX) Records, select all existing domains, and click Delete MX.
  5. Under Mail eXchanger (MX) Records, click the domain name you’ve chosen.
  6. For Preference, select 5 — Highest.
  7. For Mail Exchanger, enter ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
  8. Now, click Modify MX.
  9. At the top right, click Return to…
  10. Repeat steps five through eight with the following information:
    Preference Mail Exchanger
    10 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    15 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
  1. Log in to your account at http://www.enom.com.
  2. Click the domain name that you’d like to use with Google Apps. The main domain name page will appear.
  3. Under the DNS Settings (Zone File) panel, click Configure. The Domain Name Host Records page will appear.
  4. Under the Mail Host Records Setup panel, replace any existing entries with entries according to the table below:

    Note: Make sure each entry is entered exactly as it appears in the following table. Be sure to include the trailing dot at the end of each record.

  5. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
  1. Log in to your account at EveryDNS.net.
  2. On the left side, click the domain you would like to use with Google Apps for Your Domain.
  3. Since EveryDNS.net is your hosting service, and not your domain registrar, be sure that your domain points to the EveryDNS.net nameservers. This will allow your MX record configuration to take effect.
  4. Below Add a Record:, enter the following:
  5. Fully Qualified Domain Name (enter your domain)
    Record Type MX
    Record Value: ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    If MX Record, MX Value: 1
  6. Click Submit.
  7. Repeat steps seven through nine for the following MX record entries:

  1. Log in to your account at gandi.net .
  2. Switch to custom DNS version.
  3. Select expert .
  4. In the Build Zone field, enter the following information:
  5. @ 28800 IN MX 1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    @ 28800 IN MX 3 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    @ 28800 IN MX 3 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    @ 28800 IN MX 5 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
    @ 28800 IN MX 5 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.

  6. Click Submit .
  7. Click Submit again to accept the change.
  1. Log in to your account at http://www.godaddy.com.
  2. Open the Domains tab and select My Domain Names. You’ll be directed to the Manage Domains page.
  3. Click the domain that you’d like to use with Google Apps.
  4. From the Domain Details panel along the right, select the + icon under the Total DNS Control list item. A sub-list will appear.
  5. Click the entry titled Total DNS Control And MX Records. The Manage MX Records, and DNS Zone File panel will appear.
  6. Click Launch Total DNS Control Manager. The DNS Manager window will appear.
  7. Clear all existing MX Records by clicking Delete.
  8. Click OK in the confirmation dialogue box.
  9. Once you’ve deleted all existing records, click Add New MX Record. The MX (Mail Exchangers) Record Wizard will appear.
  10. For each MX Record, enter information according to the data in the table below:
    • For the Select the Priority Value drop-down menu, enter the priority value.
    • For Enter a Host Name, leave the default setting to @.
    • For Enter Goes To Address enter the Google server name in the table below. Be sure to include the trailing dot at the end of each record.
    • For the Select TTL Value drop-down menu, enter 1 Week. This will appear as 604800 seconds within the DNS system.

  11. Click Continue.
  12. Click Add to confirm each entry. The DNS Manager main page will reappear when you’ve finished.
  1. Go to www.icodia.com .
  2. Click Espace Client .
  3. Enter your domain name, account ID, and password to log in to your account.
  4. Click the Manage domain tab.
  5. Click DNS records .
  6. Remove any existing MX records.
  7. For add setting, enter the following information:
  8. Select MX1 and enter aspmx.l.google.com
    Select MX5 and enter alt1.aspmx.l.google.com
    Select MX6 and enter alt2.aspmx.l.google.com
    Select MX10 and enter aspmx2.googlemail.com

  9. Click Valider .

To modify your MX records with iPower, you’ll need to submit a request to the iPower support team. Follow these steps:

  1. Visit https://secure.ipower.com/cgi-bin/addserv/order.cgi.
  2. Click MX Record Additions/Changes.
  3. Fill out the top of the form with your iPower account information.
  4. Under Replace existing MX Record, enter the following:
  5. New MX Hostname or IP: ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    Replace MX which has Priority:
    (a number from 0 to 100)

  6. Under Add an MX Record, enter the following:
  7. MX Hostname or IP: ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    MX Priority:
    (a number from 0 to 100)

  8. Click Submit.

Congratulations! Your request is pending, and you should be able to use email at your domain shortly. Requests for changing/adding MX records with iPower may take two to four business days to complete.

  1. Log in to your account at ix web hosting.
  2. Click Manage below the Hosting Account section.
  3. On the left side, click the domain you would like to use with Google Apps for Your Domain.
  4. Next to Mail Service, click On to disable the default MX records.
  5. Next to DNS Configuration, click EDIT.
  6. If you have already created custom MX records, be sure to erase all existing records before adding Googleu2019s server information.
  7. Click Add DNS MX Record.
  8. Enter the following:

  10. Click Submit.
  11. Repeat steps seven through nine for the following MX record entries:

  2. Delete all MX records for your domain.
  3. Click on Manage DNS –> MX records
  4. Enter ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM at priority 10.
  5. Enter ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM at priority 20
  6. Enter ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM at priority 30
  1. Sign in to your name.com account.
  2. Navigate to Domain Management for your domain.
